Pitchers & Catchers- Day 1

Angels baseball is BACK. However, it was a bittersweet day at Tempe Diablo Stadium, as the pitchers and catchers had their first workout, they were also remembering the life of Angels legend Jim Fregosi.

NHL Stadium Series in LA

The impossible was made possible last Saturday night at Dodger Stadium when the 1st regular season NHL outdoor game west of the Mississippi was played in Southern California between the LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks.

Two weeks ago when the refrigeration truck was brought in to start building the rink, the 82 degree weather had me worried...But come game night, everything was perfect: the ice, the entertainment and the So-Cal hockey atmosphere. Besides the Kings losing to the Ducks, I'd say it was pretty successful event.

The LA EMMYS

I finally made it to the EMMYS!!
This weekend I had the honor of presenting with the legendary voice of the LA Clippers, Ralph Lawler.

We had a pretty funny moment backstage before walking out, when we realized neither of us could pronounce the names of half the spanish nominees. We asked around and no one could help us backstage, so we looked at each other, shrugged and said "here goes nothing" as we walked out.

Mike Trout's First Career Cycle

My first sideline reporting job with the Angels turned out to be a pretty memorable night. It was Josh Hamilton's birthday and Mike Trout's first career cycle.

It's been a fun journey with Trout. I remember talking to him the first day he was brought up to The Bigs, going to his first All Star Game, flying out to NJ the day he won Rookie Of The Year, and being the first person he talked to after his first cycle. So it's only fitting that my first Gatorade shower was with Trout.

While he was answering my question, my producer started chanting in my ear, "Alex move, Alex move, Alex move..." I had no idea what he was talking about, until I saw the Gatorade bin being poured over Trout's shoulder! I jetted out of there as fast as I could, and made it without a single splash on me...I still have no idea how I did that.

Inspiring the Uninspired

If you don't know Cory Hahn, you should. This young man is an inspiration to never give up on life and live each day to its fullest.

Cory was an All-American & California's Mr. Baseball who attended Mater Dei HS in OC. His senior year he was drafted by the Padres and had a hand full of scholarship offers. After deciding he wanted to grow as an individual and receive an education, Cory committed to ASU. As a freshman he made the varsity team and in his 3rd game against New Mexico had a life changing injury. While sliding into second base, Cory slid head first into the players leg and was immediately paralyzed.

Now in this new chapter in life, Cory works towards gaining motion and his independence through daily physical therapy and a positive state of mind.

Last weekend Trinity Bat Co. put on a home run derby to help raise funds for Cory. The outcome was incredible and the support was truly heart warming.

Field of Dreams

For the second off season in a row the Angels grabbed the top free-agent on the market. Last years Pujols and C.J. pick up are now the perfect compliment to this years signing of Josh Hamilton. With the combination of Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton and Mark Trumbo, I'd say that the big A has definitely turned into a field of dreams.

Game Changers- Believing You Can

This summer was the best working summer of my life. It all started when I met a Fox Sports producer while bartending at Sharkeez in Manhattan Beach. He over heard me talking about wanting the Cannon 7D for my birthday (which is the best camera ever BTW)...we got to talking, and after 20 minutes I pitched him a show idea I had about the MLS. He loved it and asked me to write the 30 minute show script. Even though I had never written a script like this before, I assured him I was well qualified for the job. 3 weeks later we met for a script meeting, 2 weeks after that we shot my pilot, and yesterday we wrapped the shooting.

Jay Cutler Sacked Again!

Jay Cutler is sacked again, but this time by MTV starlet Kristin Cavallari.

After dating only 8 months, Cutler reportedly proposed to the reality star with a 5.2 caret ring over the weekend on a quick trip to Cabo San Lucas.

Let’s hope this engagement won’t be too distracting for this NFL star, but instead take his mind off the current labor uncertainty surrounding the up coming season.

(This was  20 second news flash I wrote for a friend at FOX Sports Net a couple weeks ago...not sure if was used, but I loved writing it!)
